About Mike Collins

ABOUT MIKE
Mike Collins has been living in Holmdel since 1997. The son of Michael and Nancy Collins, Mike entered the Holmdel Township Public School system starting in the fourth grade and graduated from Holmdel High School in 2007.

MISSION STATEMENT
Mike is running for a seat on the Holmdel Township Board of Education to make a difference. As an active student in the district for nearly a decade, Mike has seen first-hand the effects of Board policy and decisions. He intends to take this wisdom he has gained through his unique perspective, and bring it to the Board of Education. Through intricate plans and innovative ideas, Mike hopes to bring the Holmdel Township Public Schools to a new level because he is Committed to Excellence.

HIGH SCHOOL LEGACY
During his time at the Holmdel High School, Mike compiled an impressive academic record, graduating as a member of the National Honor Society. Beyond academics, Mike served as producer of the Baseball Primetime television program which originated in the Holmdel High School television studio. He led a handpicked team of students to victory, winning the National Student Television Award for Excellence twice along with other awards. COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER
While in high school, Mike was extensively involved with the Holmdel community. He served as a social action volunteer, teaming with elementary school students at both the Village School and Indian Hill School. Mike has enjoyed his opportunities to interact with younger children and mentor them. He finds this form of work rewarding, and hopes that future Holmdel students follow in this direction.

STUDENT LEADER
Mike has shown over and over again that he can get things done for his fellow students. He has been an advocate for fair grading and placement policies, and he has also fought for a more stable educational environment at Holmdel High School. He was the chief architect behind the report titled “Inconsistencies Determined in the Departmental Review Process” which reviewed the 83/93 placement criterion. Mike has expressed these concerns and more at Board of Education meetings.

CURRENT EDUCATION
Mike is currently a freshman at New York University in Manhattan. At NYU, he is pursuing a double major in both politics and journalism. Mike is enjoying his undergraduate education in New York City as he continues to legally reside in Holmdel.
